From dawn to dusk — and even during emergencies — the clear notes of the bugle carried across the bare slopes of Muldraugh Hill.
Daily Signals
These were the most common calls heard throughout the camp:
- Reveille — wake up and form ranks
- Mess Call — meals served
- Assembly — fall in for drill or orders
- Retreat — sunset ceremony
- Taps — lights out
Emergency Signals
Wellington’s Diary records nights of “false alarms” when sudden calls brought the entire fort to readiness. A single bugle blast could mobilize hundreds of men within minutes.
