Letter 5 Halladay As Soon as I Get to Nashville…

Date Unknown (Likely Late 1862)

“As Soon as I Get to Nashville…”

Monroe D. Halladay, 9th Michigan Infantry

This final surviving Halladay letter is partially damaged, but enough remains to reveal a soldier
preparing for movement toward Nashville. Halladay reassures his family that “all will be right,”
asks them to write, and promises to send more news once he reaches Nashville. The closing,
“Your affectionate, Don Mina,” reflects the familiar tone of his correspondence.
